100 Comics Positives For 2013: Crowd-Funding Begins To See An Infrastructure Form Around That $$$
This was something that was drilled into me by two recent interview with webcomics veterans -- one a participant, one an observer in that scene. There are now businesses that serve those that have convinced others to get behind their dream. A major entry into that market, Make That Thing, came to life in the first few months of 2013. We won't know the outcome over time for these businesses and their impact until, well, some time has passed. But it sounds terribly promising, and while I'm still skeptical that self-directed crowd-funding is anything close to an efficient way to foster great art on a regular basis, I'm rooting for better methods of execution because they are infinitely preferable to things that crash and burn.
