50 Comics Positives In 2012: Prince Valiant Turned 75


It was a quiet anniversary for Hal Foster's iconic Sunday feature, but whether you're in the generation that remembers Prince Valiant in its comic-strip heyday or simply as one of the Three Great Things A Kid Could Look Forward To On A Weekend (with the Disney TV show and Saturday morning cartoons), a lot of people have pleasurable memories of this strip from some point during its lifetime. It's still being produced by a crew of fine, quality craftsmen, while the original Foster run is enjoying something of a critical reconsideration as it slowly sees a proper archival release from Fantagraphics. There was a time when a lot of serious comics fans considered Prince Valiant the greatest accomplishment in the medium's history; that time wasn't so long ago.
