Joey Manley on Businesspersonspeak

Hi Tom!

I understand your frustrations.

From our position, there's always a certain category of information that people want to know (like, say, for example, how much money we raised) that we'd love to tell the world -- except for that small subset of the world that is in direct competition with us, or plans to be. If we could provide that information to everybody *but* those people, we'd happily do so. But since we can't, we are often obliged to with-hold information from everybody. We do try to provide as much of an answer to any question as we can without revealing something which may be too specifically useful to competitors. But revealing all would be irresponsible, and possibly damaging to the success of our project, and the fortunes of our employees and other shareholders. So it ultimately turns into this weird kind of ethical problem: we prefer to be candid and open, but we can't always be, without screwing over those people closest to us.

so yeah. That's where the businesspersonspeak comes from.

Hope that helps!
