It has always been hellishly expensive rent the equipment at the convention from the promoters. At SDCC, it is cheaper to go down the street and buy a six-foot table from Office Depot than it is to rent the one from the show organizers. You can buy a 4-pack of folding chairs for what it costs to rent one. I used to work in the automotive industry and did a few of those shows and it is just as bad there.
