Gabe Fowler On Raising Money For Smoke Signals Newspaper (PR)

FREE COMICS PAPER SEEKS FUNDING

As you may know, Desert Island recently began publishing a free, all-comics newspaper called Smoke Signal. Issue #1 debuted in June, and included a mix of well-known and completely unknown artists.

The paper does not accept advertising, but is available free of charge. Clearly, this situation creates a need for grassroots funding, and we have only begun to fulfill our mission to give a larger voice to underexposed artists.

We are pursuing non-profit status, which will qualify us for Federal grants. But for now, we need money for printing costs. Issue #2 is currently forming, with new work by Gabrielle Bell, Dash Shaw, Frank Santoro, and many others. The finished newspaper will be 32-pages, tabloid size, with a circulation of 2000.

Individuals may learn more and contribute towards printing costs at http://www.desertislandbrooklyn.com/smokesignal.html

Please help spread the word. If 1000 people donate a dollar, we'll have the money in no time.

best regards,
Gabe Fowler
