As a corollary to your very excellent writeup about the huge amount of comics available today:

I have much of what Eddie Campbell published, picked up over the course of 1998 to about 2005 from searching through store bin and ordering comics over the Internet, so that I could piece together as much as I could of the Bacchus and Alec series.

The Alec collection from Top Shelf arrived earlier this month. It contains everything it took me years to find, and more. I feel disappointed in my efforts, in the best way possible to be disappointed.
