Dean Milburn On Before Watchmen, Watchmen And My True Story
posted May 19, 2012

Part of the Before Watchmen boondoggle that caught my attention was Moore's statement that DC offered he and Gibbons at least some portion of rights to Watchmen back if Moore would agree to the prequels. All I could figure was that there are so many copies in print, and that DC has so many copies warehoused from book trade returns, that they might never need to print another copy. There seems to be 2-3 copies of Watchmen in any used bookstore with a comics section, and the existence of $4 copies online seems to bolster the theory that DC finally milked the Watchmen cash cow to death. I think that, more than anything, is what drove prequels.

What I'd like to know, is that, if Watchmen does ever go out of print, do Moore and Gibbons own the prequels?
