James Kingman on Terry Morrow's Bigger Was Better List
posted December 29, 2005

Interesting article by Terry Morrow on this year's -- with one notable exception -- mainstream superhero comics. It’s not the kind of list you see a lot of anymore. In fact, this is the kind of article that confirms how much comics have grown up, as the majority of other "Best of" lists hardly note the superheroics and stick with the works that can truly be classified as literature. The old school fanboy in me, however, has absolutely no argument with Morrow's choices; Wonder Woman, Teen Titans and Green Lantern are the best they've been in years, and Infinite Crisis has held me enthralled since the "Countdown." Ultimate Fantastic Four, The New Avengers and House of M worked for me because I don't regularly follow current Marvel titles. On the other hand, where's Epileptic, Ice Haven, Black Hole, Top Ten: The Forty-Niners, and The King? Oh, yeah, they're on everybody else's list! What a great year!
