CR Week In Review

imageThe top comics-related news stories from February 22 to February 28, 2014:

1. Diamond Digital closes its doors, transferring what little business it did to one of the more successful, existing services.

2. Reuben Award nominees, or, if you prefer, NCS Outstanding Cartoonist Of The Year nominees, named: Mark Tatuli, Hilary Price, Stephan Pastis, Wiley Miller. They usually don't nominate four.

3. The cartoonist John Campbell has what seems to be a public meltdown in the midst of fulfilling Kickstarter pledges. Responses range from concern to confusion to contempt, frequently from the same person seconds apart.

Winner Of The Week
I hope it's okay if I say Bhob Stewart, one of those foundational do-everything talents around which the comics industries have long revolved, and one of the best writers about comics. RIP.

Loser Of The Week
Steve Weissman (he knows why)

Quote Of The Week
"I hope that readers recognize that fellow artists understand that what he's doing is completely unacceptable and are incredibly angry about it, but as a completely separate issue are worried about our friend." -- Ryan Estrada, on John Campbell.
