Pancevo's Gallery Elektrika Wins Jelena Šantić Foundation Award

The cartoonist David Lasky has a note up on Facebook congratulating Gallery Elektrika in Pancevo for winning an award from the Jelena Šantić Foundation, which is given to artistic projects which support values related to peace. That gallery is the collaboration of Vladimir Palibrk and Sasa Rakezic, two veterans of the 1980s/1990s alternative comics scene in Serbia. Rakezic is familiar to North American audience for his work under the name Aleksandr Zograf, primarily through Fantagraphics Books. In addition to hosting classes and exhibitions, the gallery has had North American cartoonists like Lasky to visit as a guest. Santic was a widely-known Serbian advocate for peace; she died in 2000.
