Random Comics News Story Round-Up

image* Ryan C on various minis from our friends in Latvia.

* best wishes in recovery to filmmaker and occasional comics scripter/general appreciator Kevin Smith.

* not comics: here are links to black feminist reviews of Black Panther. I saw that movie and enjoyed it. It is a peerless piece of pop culture. I hope it destroys every existing piece of backwards conventional wisdom about filmmaking it can and creates two dozen new ones of its own. Witnessing the quality, variety and strength of the characters there to emulate as a young person or simply have spark one's imagination as to the infinite possibilities of how to conduct oneself in life, I'm grateful.

* there's a nice piece at The Beat about ComicsPro weekend gossip and tweets from those on-hand. It's tough for a lot of retailers right now, to the point where I kind of have to think the substance of what the publishers are doing is either going to help... or it's not. Attitudes and personalities seem almost like a luxury right now, and probably get too much credit when things are going relatively well. I hope there are elements of the forthcoming sales landscape other than the new DC lines for the retailers to get psyched about selling.

* finally: go see Sarah McIntyre give her Tedx thing.
