Random Comics News Story Round-Up

* I hope more publishers donate to the fundraiser being held by the comics shop in Aurora, Colorado. That seems like a nice thing to do. I also hope a couple more creators will fly in. As I recall, the Denver comics community isn't really a big one, particularly from the mainstream comics end of things.

image* Robin McConnell talks to Charles Forsman. Jim Rugg and Jasen Lex talk to Matt Doughty. Chris Sims talks to David Gerstein.

* totally missed this Kate Beaton cartoon.

* Alyssa Rosenberg writes about the current storyline in Doonesbury, where Garry Trudeau has stated that the emphasis will shift to Alex Doonesbury from father Michael. If this is what he's doing and it's not just a clever way to do some strips, I'm not sure that I see this as a big deal; there's already been at least one collection that was driven by Alex, and other strips like Gasoline Alley, Barney Google and For Better Or For Worse have shifted off one character or character onto another. I guess I never saw Doonesbury as being about Michael Doonesbury and his classmates as much as about Garry Trudeau and his worldview. Good for him, though, if he can get attention for his strip, which I think remains rewarding. Update: As it turns out, this isn't a story after all.

* that is a very attractive Jack Kirby page that is less attractive in color and in the comic book.

* Paul Gravett on rewriting comics history in a survey of a few early-comics-history books.

* Martin Wisse would like you to know that the stories in EC Comics are terrible.

* Alan Moore on Guido Crepax, Milo Manara and Robert Crumb.

* Rob Clough on Basalt Idol #1. J. Caleb Mozzocco on Iron Man 2.0 Volume Two: Asymmetry. Todd Klein on Irredeemable Vol. 8, The Lovely Horrible Stuff and Dark Horse Presents #8.

* not comics: I'm afraid there really doesn't.

* finally, Sean Kleefeld remembers his time as a virtual editor at Marvel.
