Random Comics News Story Round-Up
* the comics business news and analysis site ICv2.com is reporting that Antarctic Press
has agreed to a temporary restraining order on its "Wimpy Kid" parody series.
* Graeme McMillan
picks five favorites from 2011. He also, vary late in the year,
managed to come up with the most terrifying first sentence for any 2011 blog post.
* two interesting eBay auctions: Kevin Eastman
is selling the contents of his studio to benefit The Hero Initiative. The owners of the one-time-industry-anchor comics store Golden Apple have seemingly
put the entire business up on eBay. By the way, that was one of the name retailers I heard a while ago was thinking of leaving the business, something I mentioned on this site and something on which I was challenged without being able, at that time, to provide names.
* Rob Clough on
Papercutter #17;
he also provides a few notes on a book for which he wrote the foreword. Dan Nadel on
The Someday Funnies. Greg McElhatton on
Snarked! #3.
* William Cardini
pens this week's scene report at
TCJ, on Austin.
*
J. Caleb Mozzocco and
Christopher Allen comment on the possibility of more
Watchmen from DC Comics. One thing I find interesting is that if this stuff doesn't hit artistically and sales-wise, the reputation of the book and its primary mover Alan Moore have in recent years been damaged enough in fan circles that there should be something of an opportunity to place any under-performance at the feet of the original rather than placing blame on the idea to try and do more work or even the work that results.
* Dave Richards talks to
Cullen Bunn. Vaneta Rogers talks to
Keith Giffen and Dan DiDio.
* finally, there's some discussion about
the loss of the Comics Journal message board roughly one year since it took place in the comments thread of a post about the
Journal going on hiatus. Kim Thompson's comment is the funniest.
