Obituary: William Sandeson 1913-2003

William S. Sandeson, an editorial cartoonist for the Fort Wayne, Indiana
The News Sentinel for 37 years, died on Wednesday, December 30, 2003. He was 90 years old.
He began his career at
The New Orleans Item-Tribune in 1937, where he served as an editorial cartoonist. In 1941 Sandeson moved to the
St. Louis Star-Times for an eleven-year stint as a cartoonist, art director, and picture editor, becoming part of that city's rich editorial cartooning tradition. Sanderson moved to northern Indiana and began his run at
The News Sentinel in 1951, a position he would hold until his retirement in 1987.
Sandeson is survived by his wife, Ruth; a son, William; two stepsons, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was buried on January 3 in Wickliffe, Kentucky.
