News: DC/Del Rey to Partner on Batman Books
posted May 14, 2004

May 14 -- Del Rey Books and DC Comics have announced a relationship that goes a little deeper than the standard movie novelization deal. A Catwoman novelization will be released June 1 in anticipation of the July 23 movie. Three Batman novels, none directly tied into expected 2005 summer special effects-laden cash cow Batman Begins, will be released in Spring and Fall 2005 and Spring 2006. The deal is noteworthy as an indication of DC's desire to move product into the bookstores in as many formats as possible, as well as its increased flexibility in working with outside partners to achieve market objectives. It also marks another area of comics related interest to be explored by the increasingly comics-savvy Del Rey and parent Random House.
