News: Random House Releases Summer Comics From Two Imprints posted May 20, 2004
May 20 -- Random House released details of its summer book season efforts in comics, featuring books from its Crown and Pantheon divisions. Crown Publications will release popular Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder's debut in the graphic novel format, Birth of a Nation. McGruder has provided a script for the project in conjunction with film and television writer/director Reginald Hudlin about East St. Louis seceding from the United States after disputed election results. Veteran Kyle Baker will provide art on the $25 hardcover, which has a release date of July 24.
Pantheon's contribution will be a sequel to Marjane Satrapi's strong-selling Persepolis, Persepolis 2. A softcover edition of the first book will be released in June before the new hardback arrives in stores at the end of August. The concluding volume will follow Satrapi's continued experiences in her homeland of Iran during the repressive years and the war with Iraq, including time in Europe away from her home country and an eventual return.
