News: Marvel Moves Books to Diamond posted August 10, 2004
August 10 -- In a surprise move, word began to leak of Marvel's imminent departure from Client Distribution Services to Diamond Book Distributors for its book trade. Marvel left Diamond two years earlier for CDS, a departure that at the time many observers thought indicated that Diamond's book trade was in great disorder.
Diamond position looks much stronger today. The move was made possible by a few key hirings and an aggressive sales and trade show presence by the company in support of existing clients. Now Diamond (Dark Horse and Marvel) and not CDS (which previously, if only briefly, could offer Marvel and Tokyopop) has two of the top companies in the book trade under one warehouse roof.
