Richard Mock, 1944-2006
Richard Mock, who provided illustrations to the
New York Times editorial page for 16 years,
died on July 26 in Brooklyn following a long illness. A noted painter and sculptor, Mock's work for the
Times consisted of expressionistic, black-on-white linoleum prints taking a satirical stance on some issue of the day. According to the
Times, Mock also worked in cartoonish portraiture. He was included in the 1973 Whitney Biennial and served as the official portrait painter of the 1980 Winter Olympics. He is survived by a companion, his mother and his sister.
