50 Comics Positives In 2012: Rina Ayuyang, Publisher

image

The great thing about micro-publishers like Rina Ayuyang and her Yam Books is that you can argue their effectiveness from two almost equally convincing directions. Micro-publishers are great because they provide a curatorial service, and they're great because someone like Ayuyang can publish a book like Ticket Stub simply because she wants to see it published. Comics is a medium of systemic and personal positives, or at least it is when it works. The flourishing of super-small publishers is a necessary, positive development given the creative landscape and the unique role that publishers can still play in getting work together and out there. Besides, I'm pretty sure it's impossible not to like Rina Ayuyang, so anything she want to do that puts her into comics' orbit is just fine with me.
