Author Todd DePastino Wins Anne M. Sperber Award For Bill Mauldin Bio

imageYou don't pick up too many legitimate stories from a PR feed -- and I'm not 100 percent sure this isn't old or weird or something -- but it seems well worth noting that Todd DePastino was awarded Fordham University's Anne M. Sperber Award For Biography on November 23 for his book Bill Mauldin: A Life Up Front. A ceremony took place at the school's Lincoln Center campus. DePastino also edited 2008's astonishing Willie & Joe: The WWII Years, a book admired its archival achievement in tracking down all of Mauldin's work from that period as well as for DePastino's contribution.

According to the PR, the Sperber Award goes to an author of a biography of a major media figure, is named for the late biographer Anne M. Sperber and is endowed by a gift from Sperber's mother. Previous recipients include Victor Navasky and Arthur Gelb. I believe this would be the award's tenth year.
