Special To The Comics Reporter
On Wednesday, January 30, the writer
Matt Fraction signed copies of
Hawkeye #7 at
the House Of Secrets comics shop in Burbank, California. Proceeds from the issue, with its hurricane-related storylines, are being directed to relief efforts from last Fall's East Coast superstorm Sandy. Money
is also being raised more generally on the issue -- and the superhero's -- behalf.
My brother
Whit Spurgeon happens to live about 10 minutes from the shop, so I asked him to stop by. I wanted to capture the moment of a prominent comics creator like Fraction doing a good thing, and a bunch of comics fans joining him. I also like that House Of Secrets space and the people there; it strikes me as a solid store of the type the industry could use a thousand more.
Comic book people are good people. That's one of the reasons why it's so distressing when not-good people show up and muscle their way in. I think that this is a very nice thing that Matt Fraction is doing, a very nice thing that House Of Secrets did by hosting, and a bunch of very nice things all of these people did by showing up and by donating. Nice can be an industry strength, too.
You can buy the
Hawkeye issue at your local comic book shop
or at comiXology.
Steve Lieber and
Jesse Hamm provided the interior pencil art, with series artist
David Aja on the cover.
Hawkeye is the superhero comic book I buy right now when I'm in a place where you buy superhero comics. If you haven't tried out the comiXology experience yet but have been meaning to, a book where some money goes to charity seems like a pretty good reason to sign up and give it a whirl. -- Tom Spurgeon
