Evan Dorkin on His Mention in the Michael Kupperman Interview

I don't know if writing this was the correct thing to do, because the whole point here is to mitigate, which writing a response never does. Anyway, in an attempt:

I've mentioned the SPX story exactly twice on my journal, once as a round-up of the SPX a while back, and just recently because a reader asked about Kupperman's work and I included the anecdote again. I just thought it was a weird way to "meet" someone whose work I admired, and a funny anecdote, and I mentioned it again. If you read the post it's not some castigating, shrill bit of business, I don't call him names or insult him, in fact I spent a good deal of the post discussing how much I like his work while plugging the Thrizzle book. I just wrote what happened, as I saw it, and our accounts differ a bit. Two guys with a few in them got off on the wrong foot. Words were exchanged, and it was an awkward situation. As he says, there was no fistfight, no one even got up from their couch. The next day a cartoonist friend of his came over to my table to discuss what happened, and that's when I learned who he was. It was just weird.

Anyway, I take the blame for blowing this up into anything, trivial as it may be, I honestly feel no animosity towards Mr. Kupperman (I'm sure he'll sleep better knowing that) and I wasn't trying to turn this into some little internet high school flap. I admire the guy's work and wish him no ill will and apologize if my posts led anyone to make more of this than it was. Whatever happened, happened, it wasn't a big deal, I won't kick it around anymore.

BTW, If Kupperman did post to my Journal I honestly don't recall it, I wasn't trying to be a wise-ass. I save that for folks I know for a fact I don't like.
