David Jones aka Johnny B on Five For Friday: Political Cartoonists
posted February 26, 2006

Tom, I never can seem to get synched with your Five for Friday columns anymore! I wish I had been aware of the latest, which is a subject near and dear to my heart, political cartooning. Not your fault, I know- you put up notice in plenty of time but my schedule never seems to let me read the CR in time!

And even though it's past the deadline, here's my five faves anyway, just for the hell of it:

1. Pat Oliphant. This guy is the master, bar none. No one else cuts deeper or makes his point more eloquently, and he's an outstanding illustrator to boot!
2. Tom Toles. I was a bit surprised at the lastest foofraw about the Rumsfeld cartoon; that's what he's been doing for years and no one noticed?
3. Nick Anderson- Louisville's loss is Houston's gain. Sometimes his art style gets a bit sketchy and a little too-distorted, but usually his aim rings true.
4. Ann Telnais- I haven't seen her retro-flavored, stylish work until just recently, but already she's become a favorite of mine.
5. Mike Luckovich. His work is always worth a look, and stands out when published occasionally in the editorial section of the Courier-Journal, the newspaper I read most often.

See ya!
