Two deaths related to comics and of interest to comics fans have been reported in the last 24 hours. First, the former Yale Chaplain and prominent peace activist William Sloane Coffin passed away at age 81. Coffin was the partial inspiration for Garry Trudeau's long-running character Reverend Scot Sloan (pictured). The cartoonist Mary Fleener has written a touching tribute on the Comics Journal message board to the San Diego-area musician Buddy Blue. Blue was a fixture at Comic-Con International, a booster of original-generation undergrounds and their spiritual heirs, and wrote about comics for various Southern California publications. He was 48.
