Nat Gertler on Nat Gertler Appearing at the Schulz Museum (PR)
posted February 3, 2008

Comic book writer Nat Gertler will be the Cartoonist in Residence at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California on February 9th. Gertler, co-author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating a Graphic Novel and publisher of the About Comics line, will be chatting with visitors about comics creation, answering questions while working on creating his own material.

The current Schulz Museum exhibition is The Language of Lines, exploring the non-verbal language and symbols used in comic art and the evolution of Schulz's use of such cues in his Peanuts comic strip. This is accompanied by the display of 75 original wordless Peanuts strips. To support this, Gertler will not only be ready to discuss non-verbal language, but will also bring preview pages of "Jenny's City", his own upcoming text-free comics feature. Created in collaboration with Malaysian artist Milx, this unique action series shows the adventures of young girl surviving and exploring in a curiously abandoned city.
As the publisher of two books of Schulz's non-Peanuts works (
It's Only a Game and
Schulz's Youth) and the writer of
Peanuts-book-fan-oriented The AAUGH Blog, Gertler is also prepared to discuss Schulz books. Or, if fans want, he can discuss the annual international celebration of 24 Hour Comics Day (which he founded), Licensable BearTM (which he created), and donuts (which he eats, although not as often as used to.)
Nat Gertler's appearance as Cartoonist In Residence runs from 1 to 3 PM on Saturday, February 9th. The Language of Lines: How Artists Communicate runs in the museum's downstairs exhibit hall until through August 11th. The display of wordless Peanuts strips runs through May 12th.
The Charles M. Schulz Museum is 50 minutes by car North of San Francisco on Highway 101. The Museum is located at 2301 Hardies Lane, Santa Rosa, California, 95403. For more information, visit the Schulz Museum's website at www.SchulzMuseum.org.
