The Center for Cartoon Studies Fellowship Exhibition:
Cartoonists Alec Longstreth & Chris Wright
Opening reception: Friday, September 5, 6-8pm
On exhibit Saturdays, 10am-4pm, during the month of September.
White River Junction, Vermont–On Friday, September 5, The Center for Cartoon Studies celebrates the opening of an exhibition of artwork by its 2008/09 Fellows, cartoonists Alec Longstreth and Chris Wright.
The exhibition opening, part of White River Junction's First Friday festivities, runs fro 6-8pm, and features original artwork, comic book sales and author signing, and root beer floats! The exhibition will be open to the public on Saturdays from 10am-4pm during the month of September. The CCS Gallery is located at the Colodny Building, 94 S. Main Street, White River Junction, Vermont.
The CCS Fellowship is awarded to emerging cartoonists who have already achieved significant critical and/or professional stature. The program is designed to help cartoonists enter the next phase of their career by providing faculty guidance, production lab access, studio space, and Schulz Library borrowing privileges. In addition, Fellows audit courses, attend lectures and special workshops, and receive other benefits extended to CCS students and alumni. The CCS Fellowship Program is sponsored in part by the LEF Foundation.
Since 2002, Alec Longstreth has been self-publishing his subscription-based comic book PHASE 7, winner of the 2005 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Minicomic. He is also the mastermind behind The Dvorak Zine, an educational comic promoting the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard Layout. Alec's illustrations and gag cartoons have been commissioned by such publications as Nickelodeon
Magazine, National Geographic for Kids and Scholastic, among others. Alec recently relocated to White River Junction, VT, for a fellowship at The Center for Cartoon Studies. He is currently working on Basewood, his first graphic novel. For more info, visit http://alec-longstreth.com.
Born and raised in Vermont, Chris Wright has been drawing comics for most of his life in one capacity or another. Chris attended the Sequential Art program at Savannah College of Art and Design, where he received both his Bachelors and Masters of Fine Art. Inkweed, a collection of his art and comics, was released by Spark Plug Comic Books earlier this year. Chris recently relocated to White River Junction, VT, for a fellowship at The Center for Cartoon Studies. He is currently at work on a graphic novel about pirates.
