Mark Coale on the Street Dates Question
posted September 9, 2008

I wonder how long the retailer that posited the original question has been in business, since this issue has seemingly been talked about for at least a decade.
I'm sure everyone that has worked in a comics store has their own "new comics day" horror story. Mine involves the store's order being sent to a former sister store that was about two hours away, so I was the lucky one who had to drive to the UPS hub one state away and pick up the book and drive back as quickly as possible to get the books out as soon as possibly.
I have long been an advocate of early shipping and a Friday street date. As to the issue of people breaking street date, that could easily be enforced by a Diamond hotline to report such instances, anonymously or not. And if Diamond can catch the store, they lose the right to early shipping.
But, knowing how industry politics works, I'm fairly certain it will never happen.
