John Vest On Prince Valiant: Far From Camelot

My favorite strip in this Prince Valiant storyline is # 3658. Val has that "What the fuck?" expression on his face in the last panel when he's been using psychology on Skyrmir, but it turns out that Skyrmir may actually be the more insightful of the pair. I think the Schultz and Gianni version of Prince Valiant reads pretty well as a weekly serial. I started clipping the strips out of the paper about 3 1/2 years ago when I became aware that Mark Schultz was writing the feature and it's fun to collect that way. I enjoy the way Mark Schultz seems to have slightly advanced Val in age. Val seems more like a middle aged man who's also in really good physical condition and Gary Gianni's style matches the depiction. Val also seems to have a touch of a mid life crisis with his wandering from home and an attraction to Makeda which gives a famous character a kind of rounded out feeling.
