John Vest On Eros Comix
posted December 10, 2008

I purchased a number of Eros titles when the imprint was first launched. There were some really great creators in the early books - Id (Crumb), Birdland (Gilbert Hernandez), Cannon (Wally Wood), Iron Devil (Thorne). Donald Simpson's Wendy Whitebread seemed crazy as hell. Sylvie Rancourt's Melody was a really likeable comic that came out years later. I also enjoyed the comics from Reed Waller and Mary Fleener.
I think part of the reason why mainstream contemporary comics seem expensive is that you don't feel like you really get the value for your three bucks. The early Eros titles were around $2.50 to $2.95 if I remember correctly, a significantly higher price than for the mainstream comics of the time. A Crumb comic never felt disproportionately expensive though
Undergrounds around that time were also in the same price range. Dreams Of A Dog sure seemed worth the cover price too.
