Yes, there have been things like the Star Trek prequel comic. The case that comes quickest to mind is also IDW, who did prequel comics to the Transformers movie last year. I find reference to prequel comics alsodone for the most recent TMNT film. DC did some for Superman Returns. But of course, those are all recent; I'm relying on memory a bit, but as I recall the first two volumes of Kyle Baker Dick Tracy that Hollywood Comics released in 1990 preceded the movie. (The third volume was the movie adaptation.) (There have also been pre-release tie-ins done as giveaways at SanDiego Con in recent years, for such projects as Pushing Daisies and True Blood, but that would fall outside your "exactly" request, I suspect.)
