Michael Tisserand On His George Herriman Book

I noticed your posting... I am indeed working on a Herriman biography and I'm contracted with HarperCollins. (I am also, however, terrible at updating my Web site, as you must have noticed.)

I'm in DC now but will be back in New Orleans later this week and would be happy to provide any other information about this project. I've been very fortunate to have the support and help by Herriman fans, scholars, and family. There aren't a lot of people left who knew him, but I've uncovered a few. And Jeet Heer, Patrick McDonnell and Karen O'Connell, and Brian Walker are among those who have been of great help. Because there is no central Herriman archive, I get to do a lot of digging, and sites like yours are invaluable.

I've written two books. Although I'm a lifelong comics fan, I've never had the chance to write a book like this on a comics topic. As a New Orleans resident, I started looking into Herriman's story because I was interested in his family roots in the city. Then I saw the Masters of American Comics exhibit and the Herriman originals spun my head around. I started working on an article that ultimately led to this book.
