Jason Gott On Borders’ Post-Xmas Returns

I just read the news blurb about Borders doing returns en masse.

I don't want to say that's not a negative in the way it appears to be -- they certainly could be doing it for monetary reasons. However, I worked at their biggest competitor for 5 years when I was in college and graduate school (this was from 2000 to 2005) and we would always do massive returns in January. It was a reaction to the tremendous amount of unsold stock from the holidays, so that we could return to normal (i.e. non-holiday) stock levels.
