Loved your Christmas idea list. I would add one source for the original art category, Heritage Auctions. They are an auction house in Dallas that do a lot of comics, and one can bid online like eBay (although they also have floor auctions). I have found some reasonable deals there on old comic strip art. They sell a lot of mainstream comic book art as well, as well as some illustration art. (Only very rarely do you see any alternative or art comics art there -- despite the fact that Todd Hignite is one of their employees!) I agree that original art is an especially wonderful gift.
