John Vest On Epic Illustrated
posted December 26, 2013

I sometimes used to buy Epic Illustrated at a convenience store in Blacksburg Virginia, when I was in college during the early 80s. It was a period of time when I'd gotten away from comics, but maintained a cursory interest with books like these.

Several weeks ago I happened to be looking at a few of those issues. The mag occasionally seemed like a half underground from Marvel (in a context with Comix Book), with appearances from Larry Todd, Mark Bode, an article on UG horror comics, Goodwin's "Sinner" with Michelle Brand. It's hard to imagine Marvel publishing a comic as varied at Archie Goodwin's Epic these days.
