Charles Vess on May 2 NYC Lecture (PR)
posted April 26, 2007

Award winning illustrator and comic book artist, Charles Vess will be in NYC on May 2 to present a lecture at the Society of Illustrators on the art of the fantastic. The Society houses an amazing collection of work by its founding fathers (Rockwell, Leyendecker, Harvey Dunn, Mead Shaffer, etc.) as well as being THE showcase for contemporary illustration. Vess is both thrilled and honored to have been invited to speak there.

His presentation, which Vess has been developing over the last 10 years, 'Part Seen, Part Imagined' is an informal visual survey of three predominate threads of the fantastic in the arts: the English fairy painters, the American pulp tradition, and the visionary artist. Vess promises hundreds of gorgeous images from both well known and obscure artists and a lively discussion about them. "If you don’t know your past how are you going to stumble down the road to your future."
