More On Closures At Nielsen Co.
The coverage of
Editor & Publisher's imminent demise
has a kind of a hands thrown up in the air quality, as most seem to see this as a concrete sign of general newspaper trends rather than something specific to the publication. A few things worth noting beyond the emphasis that this leaves a huge hole in newspaper coverage and therefore syndicated comics news as well:
1)
Kirkus Reviews is going, too, a 75-year-old book review source, and although if someone in PR out there needs to correct me, please do, I believe
KR was an early review source on the current generation of graphic novels.
2) the
E&P staff will work through the end of the year.
3) I'm not a close observer of
E&P, but it has to be worth noting as many have that syndicate news had already taken a hit when during an earlier round of cutbacks a little more than a year ago longtime reporter on that part of newspapering David Astor
was let go.
4)
Adweek,
Hollywood Reporter and some other brands are going to a newly-created media company.
5) Just to show you how quickly the industry has changed,
E&P had only gone from weekly to monthly in 2004.
I can't imagine anything taking the exact place of
E&P, although there are some find journalism sites out there that could fill that role in part.
