News: Web Cartoonist Commits Suicide
posted May 28, 2004

May 28, 2004 -- Michael Buonauro, the writer of several web comics including Gamer Hotties, Dr. Lobster and Wrench Farm, committed suicide after a short period of depression following what may have been relationship difficulties. While followers of web comics seemed equally divided as far as charitable/censorious responses to Buonauro's taking of his own life, the Buonauro family announced on June 8 through the writer's web site that they would be setting up a foundation in the writer's name "to help provide financial assistance with funeral arrangements for families of suicide victims; and also to help provide financial assistance for medical or psychiatric needs of those who attempt suicide and (thankfully) survive."

Buonaro's last public words were made in the web log at LiveJournal through which he communicated with many of his readers and friends. In a final entry posted on his birthday a day before he ended his life, the writer stated, in slang, "woulda. coulda. shoulda."

Michael Buonuaro was 25 years old.
