100 Comics Positives For 2013: KAL Kickstarted A Massive Economist Art Retrospective Book
A big retrospective of KAL's work for The Economist is a great thing in and of itself, but I found it fascinating that the cartoonist crowd-funded this effort, bringing in about 10X the amount of money asked and plowing as much of that money as possible back into the original package -- a full-color effort as nice-looking as any comics-related art book out on the market this year. I love the specific culture that's grown up around the phenomenon of crowd-funding, but it's projects like this one that suggest a life for the mechanism if there's ever a cultural shift that bleeds certain efforts of some of their power. It's all good.
