The writer Steve Niles was caught short when flooding hit his home in Austin; the help of professional peers and fans through auction and donation helped get him through the crisis. It's rarely a complicated story when something like that happens, but it's always a positive one. I have to imagine the human concern is also a huge boon during times like that. My understanding is that Niles has since relocated back to Los Angeles.
