100 Comics Positives For 2013: WuMo Launches At 200+ Client Buys
They don't launch new strips with the frequency they did before the late '00s newspaper industry freefall, but they still launch them.
WuMo has a fascinating pedigree -- it's already a dozen years in, was all over Europe, has a considerable web presence and I think even generated its own television show. It's solid, effective gag work, and I think the limited window for launches makes that kind of execution super, super important now. A two hundred client launch would be something to reckon with at any time in comic-strip history, and now it looks like a miracle -- although maybe I'm wrong about that, maybe strip launch with higher numbers now for how rare those launches are. I suppose we'll see. I'd love to know if there were any arrangements made to facilitate higher sales but even if they offered a pile of shiny gold coins to every editor that made a purchase 200 would be something about which to brag. More importantly, I bet it adds another couple of hundred.
