Analysts: November 2009 DM Estimates

The comics business news and analysis site ICv2.com offers their usual array of lists, estimates and analysis regarding the performance of comic books and graphic novels in the Direct Market of comic and hobby shops, this time for November 2009.

John Jackson Miller at The Comics Chronicles has begun his analysis of the month right here, where he continues his analysis of DC's sudden skill with placing books at top of charts. This is a potential industry paradigm-changer not just for the back and forth notion of comics sales as gamesmanship, but because of the temptation the recent success of Blackest Night will provide both companies in terms of continuing to pump out event comics at the expense of strengthening the standard lines of books. Some industry watchers, and to varying degrees I'd include myself among their number, feel that the lack of attention to regular series indicates a longtime and eventually debilitating weakness in the market.

It should also be noted that Chew seems to be morphing into a solid hit at the moderate-hit level for Image, with a top-of-charts performance for its first trade and a strong showing generally. I believe that's the story of a law enforcement person that receives psychic impressions from things he eats, which just goes to show you you can't predict the hits right out of the gate. Well, I can't.
