Artist/Cartoonist Arrested In White River
The
Rutland Herald is reporting in a fire-walled article that artist/cartoonist
Jasper Friend pleaded innocent yesterday to two felony charges related to possession of cocaine and heroin. According to the article, Friend was arrested on Sunday night after being found by a police officer passed out behind the wheel of his parked truck in White River Junction, with a number of narcotics and prescription pills, some within plain view. Friend's lawyer told the court that he had been attending the Center For Cartoon Studies but had recently stopped for financial reasons.
The charges facing Friend carry with them a maximum sentence of 10 years and $200,000 in fines.
I don't know anything at this early hour except what's in that report, so I'm asking you to consider this a post saying that the
Herald is reporting this rather than an endorsement of the report. For one thing, the
Herald has Friend attending the two-year school for four years, which hopefully someone can clear up. I also feel the private travails of cartoonists are more a heartbreaking series of circumstances as opposed to real news that needs to be endlessly discussed, and I hope that whatever happened the artist is able to sort things out.
