Bundled, Tossed, Untied And Stacked
By Tom Spurgeon
* Fantagraphics is offering up pre-orders on Mark Kalesniko's return to comics,
Freeway.

* Jeet Heer
talks to Michael Tisserand about his much-anticipated, forthcoming book on George Herriman.
* Drew Friedman
mentioned in passing over on Facebook that he'll be doing a third Jewish Comedians book and that roast-master supreme Jeffrey Ross will be doing the introduction.
* the inimitable Jon Lewis
will have a new comic available for purchase at the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival called
Klagen: A Horror.
1-800-MICE #5
will also make its debut at BCGF this weekend. Also debuting at that show -- and I'm guessing there's going to be a lot of new material on hand, so forgive me for writing only about the few I've remembered to bookmark -- is Sparkplug's
Habitat #2.
* I'm thinking the next time
this is a story is when this stops being a story: in other words, the next step worth noting is line-wide digital/print releases.
* the artist Chris Samnee
writes on efforts to save
Thor: The Mighty Avenger. I suspect there will be a mini-revival of this particular book at some point, but nothing that sustains itself.
*
this Benjamin Marra comic, starring Maureen Dowd in what looks like one of those naughty movies Bonnie Bedelia made but with a lot more political and media in-jokes, is among the funniest, most bizarre things I've seen in comics this year.
*
Paul Gravett talks A Graphic Cosmogony.
* the hype that comes with a Mark Millar comic these days is always a bit difficult to process unless you have an unhealthy appetite for such things, but
a comic with that writer and the artist Dave Gibbons will almost certainly be worth checking out when it arrives.
* the writer Kurt Busiek
has announced he's working on a thematic sequel to his
Superman: Secret Identity book starring Batman, to be called
Batman: Creature Of The Night.
SSI was a book about Superman if he and only he existed in a world where Superman is a comics character, and is one of Busiek's most well-liked works. He also mentions the possibility of doing something with
Wonder Woman along those lines. John Paul Leon is handling art chores on the
Batman book.
*
Comics Alliance talks to Ryan North about a new
Dinosaur Comics collection.
* the great Roger Langridge
is leaving the muppets-related comics he's been writing and frequently drawing for Boom!. Personal reasons are cited, although Langridge notes he was ready to move on anyway. Langridge is one of the nicest professionals in comics and I can't imagine anyone that knows Langridge
not wishing him the best in resolving whatever life issue has come up.
* the
Guelph Mercury profiles Jay Stephens. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of Stephens before.
* Media Blasters
announced plans several days ago to restart its yaoi line in 2011.
* finally,
according to a post at the FPI blog, Jim Medway's on-line magazine
Comical Animal debuts the day after tomorrow.
