Carl Abrahams, 1911-2005

One of the more interesting artists in the mid-20th Century rise of Jamaican painting, Carl Abrahams
died peacefully in his home on Sunday. Abrahams stood out for his understanding of the power of an attitude or message brought to a visual work, a way of approaching painting gleaned in part from a brief period working as a cartoonist, under the tutelage of the pioneering Cliff Tyrell. Many of his best-known paintings were created in the 1970s and early 1980s.
