Cartoonist Jailing In Iran In Context
Here's an article that discusses the jailing of cartoonist Mana Neyestani and his editor as well as the closing of their paper in terms of an ongoing crisis of the press in Iran. It identifies the newspaper
Iran as a "reformist daily" One piece of information in there I hadn't read before was that people were arrested during the riots. There's also some good stuff about the minister of culture and the role he plays in a couple of areas. It's good to hear that the closure has been publicly criticized, and depressing to hear that 103 newspapers were shut down by committee and court order between 1999 and 2004. Also, one of the punishments facing Neyestani may be flogging.
