Comic Book Legal Defense Fund Wins Robert B. Downs Freedom Award

According to
a press release and blog entry released/posted by the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF), that longtime comics and free speech advocacy organization has won 2010 Robert B. Down Intellectual Freedom Award. That award is granted by the faculty of the Graduate School Of Library And Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. You can read about the awards and its parade of admirable winners
here.
What's fascinating about the post is that as the Fund received the award for its consistent accomplishment, it has allowed for a listing of its own highlights. This is sort of like having the CBLDF in for a job interview and having them run their greatest accomplishments by you -- it gives you insight not just into those very real accomplishments but into the group's self-conception. They list the Mavrides case, the Dwyer case, the Gordon Lee case, the Marshall Public Library case, its challenges to Massachusetts and Alaska law regarding listservs, and their support of the video game industry in Schwarzeneggar vs. EMA.
The group will receive the award in San Diego in early January as part of the midwinter meeting of the ALA.
