El-Shafee Court Date Changed To 5-12

A hearing for Egyptian cartoonist and publisher Magdi El-Shafee on charges of violating public morality was postponed from
its initial April 18 date to
May 12. Here's
a succinct profile of the issues involved, drawing in part from a conversation with the cartoonist, which also describes some previous charges brought by the plaintiff against other people. I haven't read anything that makes me think there will be a positive outcome here: initial news stories cited some international pressure to protect these kinds of rights as a first step towards Egypt's greater participation in certain kinds of political arrangements, but I haven't seen anyone argue that recently.
