French-Language Breakdowns Imminent

imageHere's something that reader David Puchard brought to my attention: the French-language version of Art Spiegelman's new Breakdowns looks like it will debut next month from Casterman, meaning it will be out more than a half year in advance of the Engligh-language version of the same book from Pantheon. This strikes me as something that's a little bit different than how most books from English-speaking cartoon authors are treated, but I don't really have the evidence to back that up or disprove it. The book will be in three parts: the original work, a new series of autobiographical strips parts of which (or maybe all of which) have been running Virginia Quarterly Review, and an essay by the cartoonist about the original work and its re-issue. Considering what the original book goes for when you can find it, it should be a welcome publishing event in both language.
