Go, Read: Editorial On The Recent Satire Documentary Ban By The SABC
I very much liked this editorial by Fikile-Ntsikelelo Moya of the Sowetan about the South African Broadcasting Corporation's recent decision to ban a documentary that feature some of the more controversial satirical material by popular cartoonist Jonathan "Zapiro" Shapiro. Moya confirms the existence of a troubling trend to redefine the argument away from free speech and the role of the press into a discussion of whether or not people find Zapiro's work offensive. He is also unsparing in his language as to this issue's ultimate, potential meaning.
