Go, Read: Interview With Political Cartoonist Ako Eyong
Eyong is a political cartoonist who fled persecution in his native country of Cameroon. If you get to the end of the piece, it sounds like the artist's American experience has been just a tumultuous and fascinating as the career he built for himself in his home country. What strikes me, again, hearing his work described, is how mildly strident the work seems and how strongly political forces objected to it as if it were wildly radical. I know that most people believe at the heart of these disputes is a group of people grasping for power, but examining the work seems to me to
really confirm that element of it in most known cases.
